Make an appointment for your baby's first dental visit

Make an appointment with a pediatric dentist for your child’s first “well-baby” appointment when his or her teeth start to erupt. Pediatric dentists are uniquely trained to give oral treatment to newborns and young children in order to maintain their health and proper development.

Baby teeth aren’t permanent. Why do they need special care?

Your child’s initial teeth play a crucial part in development, even if they don’t stay as long as permanent teeth. These primary teeth help your child speak, smile, and chew properly while they’re in place. They also serve as a placeholder for permanent teeth in the jaw. If a youngster loses a tooth too early (due to damage or decay), neighboring teeth may crowd into that area, resulting in crooked or misplaced permanent teeth. The dental health of your child’s teeth and gums also has an impact on his or her overall health.

How to Care for Your Child’s Teeth

A daily oral cleansing is recommended for all infants. Wipe your baby’s gums gently with a soft, wet towel to remove any residual formula or milk and prevent germs buildup.

Primary teeth form around the age of 6 months and continue to erupt through the gum line until about the age of 3. You should start brushing your baby’s teeth using a soft-bristle baby toothbrush as soon as teeth start to develop from the gums. Apply a small amount of child-safe toothpaste to your child’s toothbrush. After the age of three, brush their teeth with a pea-sized dollop of fluoride toothpaste. At least twice a day, you should brush your child’s teeth.

We recommend brushing and flossing your child’s teeth for them until they are about 7 years old, at which point their motor skills will be matured enough for them to brush on their own.

Giving your youngster a bottle of juice or other sweetened beverages is never a good idea. It is advised that you move your child from a bottle to a sippy cup or straw cup around the age of one year. This will aid in the prevention of tooth decay.

Teething can cause soreness in your baby’s mouth. Provide a chilled teething ring and gently wipe the gums with a cold towel before and after meals to make them feel more at ease.

What happens during my child’s first visit to the dentist?

The initial visit is usually brief and straightforward. In most cases, we concentrate on getting to know your child and providing you with some basic dental information. Dr Linique will examine your child’s teeth for placement and condition, as well as any potential gum and jaw issues. We may conduct some cleaning if necessary. We’ll also answer any questions you have about how to care for your child’s teeth as they grow, as well as give you documents with helpful hints you can use at home.

How can I prepare my child for their first dental appointment?

Maintaining a pleasant attitude is the best preparation for your child’s first visit to our clinic. Children pick up on their parents’ fears, so if you make bad comments about going to the dentist, you can bet your child will be afraid of the experience as well. Show your child the website’s photographs of the office and personnel. Tell your child that keeping their teeth and gums healthy is vital, and that the doctor will assist them in doing so. Keep in mind that your dentist is professionally qualified to deal with concerns and anxiety, and our staff specializes in calming youngsters during treatment.
